Summer Youth Support Internship
Dates and Hours:
This position is for two weeks only, July 21-25 and August 4-8, 2025.
Hours are 1:30-5:30pm.
Position Description:
This Youth Support Intern will support CMSS’ Songwriting Camp directors by helping to oversee children who are participating in the sessions, supporting their safety and well-being, and providing general classroom help and logistical support.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain awareness of all students’ whereabouts during your shift, including taking attendance as students arrive, and checking students out when they leave.
- Supervise students during any breaks, transitions, or field trips, including planning fun activities to keep students occupied (sing-alongs, coloring pages, etc)
- Room setup and break down (chairs, music stands, etc)
- Maintain consistent punctuality and reliability for all shift hours assigned
- Perform basic support tasks for Camp Directors as needed, such as making copies
- Elevate to the camp director(s) any concerns or issues that are beyond your capacity to manage
- Help mitigate any student behavioral issues that may arise
- Ensure student safety when outside of the CMSS building for any activities/performances (safe street crossing, etc)
- Serve as a support and mentor to students, ensuring their positive engagement and assisting them with lesson content
- Assist with instrument transportation, instrument and classroom setup, and proper technique for handling and treating instruments
- Participate in activities alongside children to model participation and provide informal learning support. For example, if a student is doing something they shouldn’t, redirect them, or raise your hand and ask a question that will help guide them
- At all times, model with CMSS faculty, students, staff and families the respectful communication (speech/tone, body language) and responsible behavior we are inviting our students to emulate.

Required Qualifications:
- Experience caring for children ages 7-13
- Responsible, reliable, and punctual
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills; Ability to communicate compassionately and respectfully with people from a different races, ethnicities, cultures, genders, abilities and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Ability to work collaboratively and share responsibility with colleagues, develop and maintain positive working relationships
- Open to learning new things and adaptable to change and new environments
- Willingness to learn from experienced teachers and accept constructive feedback
- Flexibility, adaptability and enthusiasm for dynamic learning environments
Preferred Qualifications: Fluent in English and Spanish
