Summer Youth Coordinator Internship

Dates and Hours:

Children’s Chorus Summer Session: July 10th – 21st; 9:30am – 1:30pm

Guitar Week: August 14th-18th ; 11:30am – 1:30pm

additional days/hours may be available

Position Description:

The Summer Youth Coordinator will support CMSS summer camp directors by providing childcare to youth ages 5-13 during CMSS summer sessions. This involves overseeing children who are participating in the summer sessions, ensuring their safety and wellbeing. For Guitar Week, this will be during the time that the camp directors are preparing lessons and students are eating lunch. During the Children’s Chorus Summer Session this will be during morning chorus activities and mural painting as well as lunch.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students during lunch (including awareness of any food allergies), transitions, and field trips
  • Plan fun activities (sing-alongs, coloring pages, etc) for students during camp transition times, lunch times, and breaks
  • Maintain awareness of all students’ whereabouts during your shift, including taking attendance as students arrive, and checking students out if they are leaving early.
  • Room setup and break down (chairs, music stands, etc)
  • Maintain consistent punctuality and reliability for all shift hours assigned
  • Perform basic support tasks for Camp Directors as needed, such as making copies
  • Elevate to the camp director(s) any concerns or issues that are beyond your capacity to manage
  • Help mitigate any student behavioral issues that may arise
  • Ensure student safety during field trips (safe street crossing, etc)
  • During Children’s Chorus Session:
    • Assist with visual art projects, including carrying supplies, cleaning paintbrushes, etc, under the direction of the muralist
    • Participate in activities alongside children to model participation and provide informal learning support. For example, if a student is doing something they shouldn’t, redirect them, or raise your hand and ask a question that will help guide them

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children ages 5-13
  • Responsible, reliable, and punctual
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills; Ability to communicate compassionately and respectfully with people from a different races, ethnicities, cultures, genders, abilities and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Ability to work collaboratively and share responsibility with colleagues, develop and maintain positive working relationships
  • Open to learning new things and adaptable to change and new environments


Preferred Qualifications:
Fluent in English and Spanish

Compensation: $17 per hour
