SPS Visual Art Teacher Critique Group

March 6 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

“The SPS Visual Art Teacher Critique Group began with a desire for higher level critical discourse and community among artists.  We are committed to a strong pedagogical structure for critique– one that builds and focuses productive discussions. We are both committed to bringing art educators together supporting each other in developing our artistic voices, and situating that voice in a contemporary discourse. We offer rigorous, critical, supportive feedback akin to a graduate-level seminar in small ongoing artist groups. Asking ethical and aesthetic questions, we situate artworks in a social context, engage materials in their own language, and preserve the inchoate nature of the creative process. We are a supportive forum for exploration and discussion of new, vulnerable, in progress, and experimental works and ideas. The connection and community transcend the sessions.  The ongoing, intensive, safe space of the meetings encourages work to flourish and grow in critical depth and perception. Our on-line support system allows each artist to share works and works in progress through visual means as a way to gain deeper insight into their work as it progresses. It is our hope that through critical discussion of our work, we can grow together as artists and build a stronger art educator community in Springfield, MA.”
