The
Community Music School of Springfield, founded in 1983, is a non-profit
arts education institution. CMSS is dedicated to inspiring people
of all ages to begin or renew a lifelong journey into the joy of music
and the arts, making this experience accessible and affordable to all
people in our community. We offer instruction in classical, jazz,
Latin, gospel and other popular music styles to individuals and families
of diverse backgrounds and cultures, ages, abilities, talents, and financial
needs. Our experienced international faculty of 65 music educators provide
instruction to more than 1,400 students who attend weekly lessons, spanning
more than 30 area communities.
CMSS is also home to the
Prelude Preschool of the Arts, Massachusetts’ only full day preschool
devoted to arts-based education for children aged 3-5 years. Our
new performance hall, Robyn Newhouse Hall, hosts student recitals, master
classes, and professional musical and other arts performances throughout
the year.
The Community Music School of Springfield is a premier community
arts school in Western Massachusetts. We are a member of the National
Guild of Community Schools for the Arts and a recipient of many distinguished
awards, including the Commonwealth Award, Massachusetts Cultural Council’s
highest arts honor, recognizing the significant contribution that CMSS
has made in building community through the arts.
